On April 18th Tilly turned 9 months old. I really really love this age and stage! They’re mobile and able to make a few decisions like what toys to play with and where they want to go. I think it allows their personality to show through much more than before. It’s fun.
Tilly at 9 months:
She is wearing so many different sized clothes. 3-6 months, 6 months, 9months and 12 month Pjs. I KNOW. She’s a long lady, so pants need to be 9 months but since it’s warmer out, she can get away with 3-6 months and 6 months pants as capris so I’m keeping some outfits out. She’s still thin enough to fit in them. PJs I’ve learned always fit small so we are in 12 months there. Size 3 diapers just because the 2’s were leaking at night. We cloth diaper at home and she is on the middle setting of my 1 sized diapers. Size 2 shoes to church (and those are the only shoes she wears besides her custom made knit booties that don’t have a size).
She can crawl pretty fast now. Always towards the dog’s water dish. I sometimes put out obstacles to slow her down but she can’t be distracted from her mission very often. She seems quite determined. She doesn’t like to be restrained since she’s so mobile so the excersaucer is not being used. I think it’s time to put it away. Kinda a sad thing since it is one of my most used baby items but I’m also happy to get some space back. She also has a love hate relationship with our (illegal in Canada) walker (excersaucer on wheels). She crawls over to it and pulls up to play with the toys, but if I put her in it she is only happy for 5-10 minutes max. She’d rather be out crawling around.
Speaking of pulling up, that’s a new thing for this month. She is pulling up on everything and walking along furniture very slowly. I can’t believe she is doing that already! She will walk behind her Activity Table. It slides if she leans on it and she will happily just take steps to get closer to it and before you know it she’s across the room. But she won’t walk behind her walker. She pushes it and when it rolls, she just lets go and sits down. Babies are so silly sometimes!
Tilly is eating lots of finger foods. She loves grated cheese, bread, avocado, squash and rice but will eat almost anything. You know what she won’t eat? Puffs. My boys loved those as easy on the go snacks but she won’t eat them. I have tried different brands, and flavours and she will not eat any of them. She just wants the grown up food. Unless it’s fruit. She is not a fruit fan at all. She makes this sour face like we’ve given her a lemon!
She started stealing the boys water cups so we gave her one of her own. She loves it! We stuck with a straw cup so she can be independent, and so far we have only given her water and smoothie. I’m pretty sure she’s had some milk from the boys cups though (almond/cashew/goat or cow milk).
She definitely does not have a schedule. Any time I attempt to get her on one, I just get really frustrated. Who needs that?!? We just go on her cues and it works for us. She sometimes only has one nap a day, and sometimes she has three. Sometimes she goes to bed at 7pm, and sometimes it’s 11pm. She eats 3 meals a day with us and nurses on demand in-between. She’s pretty chill and just goes with the flow and for me, that is easier than a schedule.
Tilly is just so independent, adorable and funny. She does this super dramatic fake cry where she throws her head back really far. Then she will look at you to judge your reaction. It’s too funny. She also gets really shy sometimes and will bury her head into our shoulders. She does that when she sees herself in the mirror. Most of the time she just wants to play and crawl around on her own. She will always crawl towards the boys to see what they are doing but most of the time she just finds some toys nearby and will play by herself. She makes it known when she wants to be cuddled and will crawl up and lay her head on my foot while whining which I also find extra adorable. And LOVING. She will grab my hair and pull my face to hers and just kiss me for minutes. I have to pull away so I can breathe.
She’s just great.
We are always saying “You are the BEST BABY EVER!” to Tilly and it’s true. She is just amazing and I can’t wait to see who she becomes. I still can’t believe I have a daughter and I’m always telling her about the things we will do when she’s bigger. Hopefully she isn’t too eager and takes her time growing up. Because I am loving every single minute of it.
