Guys, my baby is 1 year old already! I do miss those tiny baby days but honestly, Tilly is so much fun as a 1 year old. I asked John for 1 word to describe her and he said she’s a HAM. And it’s true. She is absolutely hilarious!
Tilly weighs 18.5 lbs according to our doctor which is just above the 15th percentile. But a week later we saw the public health nurse who said she was 19lbs 11oz which is around the 50th percentile. I don’t think both of those can be accurate but either way she is healthy. She eats tons of food but also loves to feed Rudy. I find she eats more if I put him outside or make him wait in the other room. Lately she’s been eating 2 dinners. I will feed her early at 4:30 because she seems to be tired and I want her to eat before bed. But that seems to wake her up and she will want to eat again with us around 6pm. Her current favourite foods are green scrambled eggs (I puree the eggs with spinach then fry), cheese and berries. She HATES milk. Cows milk, Goats milk or nut milk. She drinks it and makes a disgusted face and then lets the milk dribble out of her mouth. So….? I don’t really know what to do about it. My boys loved milk and it was an easy transition. I’m still nursing her and while I would like to stop the day-time feedings and maybe the middle of the night feedings, I don’t plan to stop completely so it’s not a huge deal. Maybe I should try mixing breast milk with cows milk? But that would mean getting my pump back out and I just don’t love that thing.
Tilly is transitioning from 2 naps a day to 1. Sometimes she will have a short morning nap and a longer afternoon nap. Sometimes she will only have 1 long nap in the early afternoon and that’s it. Occasionally on early afternoon nap days, she sneaks a nap in at 5pm and then is up until like 11pm. We REALLY enjoy that alone time with her since it isn’t every night. It’s like “Wow! Is this what it’s like with only 1 kid?” At night she is still waking 2 times to nurse, but I’ve been denying her the second feed and just cuddling her while she screams at me. I know she’s not hungry and it’s just a comfort thing, so I try to comfort her in other ways. John usually will take her from me at that point since she will only scream at him for a few minutes, but will scream at me for hours. Have I ever mentioned he’s the BEST? Because he is.
As mentioned above, she’s HILARIOUS. She is constantly babbling to herself and to anyone around her while making funny faces. If she hears anyone laughing, she will start laughing too. Even if it’s a neighbour outside or the TV. If she hears laughter, she joins in. When she gets mad she does the angry muttering that Henry used to do. It’s so funny. She also makes the most hilarious faces and crack us up.
Tilly is a walking pro now and does it most of the time. She kinda went on a bit of a strike for a while but just the past 2 weeks she’s been walking more than crawling. She also figured out that if she pulls the pillows off the couch, she can use them to climb onto it. So she does a circuit of climbing on, crawling across and then sliding off backwards and walking back to the other end. We also discovered she can go down the stairs backwards and I don’t even think we taught her that. She’s also really interested in putting objects into other objects. Like putting smaller toys into bowls/cups or containers and then taking them out again.
She still has 8 teeth, though 1 molar sometimes looks like it’s about to pop out and then it disappears again. She can say Mom, Dad, Done (but it’s mostly just a long Do sound), And Mmmmm for more (when prompted) and Hi. She has started trying to repeat lots of things we say. She likes to point and have us name things and then she will try to say it too. Adorable! She also pointed with her wrist, and not her hand which is also adorable.
Tilly and the boys: I will say that now that she is extra mobile, they sometimes get annoyed with her. She always tries to steal their food, and she always wrecks the train tracks on their train table. Both which totally annoy the boys. But the rest of the time they are super adorable together. Henry likes to come to her on his own terms to cuddle her and love her and pinch her cheeks just a little too hard. He also loves to run upstairs when she wakes up from her naps to talk to her. William plays with her all the time! They are kinda best buds and sometimes I feel bad for Henry, but at the same time Henry LIKES to play by himself. He doesn’t feel left out. Tilly lights up when both the boys include her in their games. She’s definitely happiest when she can play with both of them like crawling through a fort/tunnel or jumping on the chair “trampoline”. If they run off after playing a game with her, she looks after them so disappointed! She just loves them so much.
Basically she is the most adorable human being on the entire planet. And she’s ours! We seriously can’t believe we’ve only had her for 1 year and not forever. I would have like 3 more of her if only she would stop screaming at me during the night.
