William’s favourite movie for over a year now is the Polar Express. So I was not surprised when he told me that he wanted a Polar Express Birthday. And really, since his birthday is the very end of November…it would be easy to do! I decorated for Christmas (minus the tree), made a banner, invited everyone to wear their jammies, made a cake, popped some popcorn and cooked some hot chocolate. When the kids arrived we made Christmas Ornaments, then one of them eagerly asked “Can we watch the MOVIE now?” So we did. When it was over there was just enough time to eat cake and open presents. It was lots of fun.
But can we talk about my sad looking cake? I always want to make my kids their cakes. My mom did it for us and I want to do it for my kids. I was going to make a 3 layer cake that resembled a giant mug of hot chocolate, but as I started assembling the layers, William pipes up with “Make it a MOUNTAIN CAKE MOM”. With a look of PURE excitement. I couldn’t say no! So I tried and the result is a sad looking snowy mountain cake that William loved. I suppose that’s all that matters in the end.
The next day we were lucky enough to get tickets to the POLAR EXPRESS train ride from Aspen Crossing in Mossleigh Alberta. It was awesome, and I highly recommend it to everyone!! There were golden tickets, Hot hot chocolate, cookies, dancing waiters, SANTA, and everyone got the first gift of Christmas (a beautiful silver bell). We had a really great weekend over all.
